Let your speech have grace and salt

Colossians 4:6 - Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

When we cook we add a small amount of salt in our cooking, without salt the food tastes bland. Salt by itself does not taste good but when put in a small quantity - right quantity it helps bring out the best taste of the other ingredients.

Salt has other properties; it acts like a preservative and also as a catalyst in cooling.

Paul lead by the Holy Spirit in his letter asks us to let our speech be always with grace and seasoned with salt. Having grace means being extra good / thankful in our communication with others. But just having grace would make us hypocrites. Being honest and correcting a person gradually or help bring out the best of the person via our communication would means adding salt.

We are to season our speech with salt meaning just add a pinch of it, adding more salt would make our communication a rebuke. We are to build people not to break them or mislead them (no salt).

[ Prayer Starter ]

Father God, You wrote your Word in a way that man can understand it gradually and it helps build us. It is your Spirit that unfolds your Word to us. Help us when we communicate with others, we are lead by your Spirit in our every word. Let our words build others and show light unto them. This we ask in Jesus' Name, Amen.

The Word of God was given free to us, therefore we should also share it freely with others.
