Dying to the world

Colossians 3:1,2,3 - If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

Being a Christian the first thing required of us is to set our priorities right. God does not expect all to become hermits giving up material things and roaming about bare feet preaching the Gospel. Nor does God want us living our earthly lives trying to collect more and more of the things of this world, living only to satisfy our physical and mental desires.

We live a few days here on earth and most of our life is beyond this life. Knowing this we need to keep our priorities right and concentrate more on the longer part of our life than the very short part. Once we get concern about the greater part of our lives we will set our priorities in life right. We will thirst and desire more of the heavenly things than earthly things.

To do this we need to overcome our carnal (self centered physical and mental) desires learning to say NO to it. Only when we learn to say NO to our carnal being will we be able to say YES to our spiritual needs. To do this we need the help of the Holy Spirit.

So let us die to our carnal self and come alive to our spirit being in Christ.

[ Prayer Starter ]

Father God, when You first made us You made in spirit and put us in this clothing which is our flesh. Help us Lord to realize that one day we have to shed this clothing and live in spirit alone like You really made us. Help us not be like the rich man who does not get to enter heaven like in the parable of the eye on the needle. I ask this in Jesus' Name, Amen.

[ Reference Scriptures ]

Luke 8:24-25
24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

The Word of God was given free to us, therefore we should also share it freely with others.
