Be you not unequally yoked together with unbelievers

2 Corinthians 6:14 - Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

This advice from Paul is very necessary for God's people living in countries like India. The scripture does not say a blanket - distant one's self from the unbelievers.

Firstly see to whom is Paul giving the advice to (2 Corinthians 6:13) - children. If you meditate and look deeper in to the advice, you will find something very excellent in it. Paul says 'do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers'.

Let me give you an example - if we are sick or our body is weak and prone to cold will we dare to eat an ice-cream. We know that if we have an ice-cream our health will worsen or we will catch a cold, so we will keep away from it unit we have built our body resistance. The same thought we should give to our relationship with unbelievers, when we are not strong in the Lord it is best to distance ourselves from them in area concerning their gods / religion / traditions.

Foe example, we find Christians in India celebrating Diwali since it is called a festival of light - do they know who's light it is? Is their god and our God the same? Then how can the two lights be the same?

Mature in the Word of God first and then interact with them in areas regarding belief, else you will find whatever little foundation you have will be shaken. Children do not handle fire, leave it to the adults. If you have concerns for a non believer, do not indulge or debate with them with regards to belief, consult a brother or sister mature in the Word.

[ Prayer Starter ]

Father God, built us in You. Your Word instructs us and discloses all understandings. It helps us discern things of darkness and of light. Give us the wisdom O Lord to keep away from the darkness and dwell always in your light. I ask this in Jesus' Name, Amen.

2 Corinthians 6:13-18
13 Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged.
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
