The Day of Trumpet

Zephaniah 1:15,16 - That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.

In the Bible may places the word day does not mean literal 24hour day but the word in Hebrew 'yowm' mean a period of time. Although the root of the word means hot and symbolizes the day time, there are many places it does not refer to daytime so has been translated as time (64), chronicles (37), daily (44), ever (18), year (14), continually (10), when (10), as (10), while (8), full (8) always (4), whole (4), alway (4).

The objects connected with the Sanctuary were symbolic and among these trumpets symbolized prophesies. The walls of Jericho been bought down by blowing of trumpets symbolically teaches us to speak to our situations by prophesizing and they will surely tumble down even if they are as strong walls as the walls of Jericho were.

Fenced city symbolized a protected surrounding. We read in the Bible the mature people of God are called dwellers of the city of Zion. There were also many other famous fortified cities we read in the Bible like Tyre, Sidon and Nineveh. Tyre was totally destroyed for by its name meaning 'pebbles' it was symbolizing a city of Satan a city where people of untruth dwell. Sidon (latter known as Saida) meaning 'hunting' symbolizing people who out to spiritually destroy others. They were the hunted who now have become the hunters. Jesus put the Pharisees into this category. Like this city which had beautiful watered gardens, these people to look very attractive and blessed from far until the Day of the Lord comes. The other type was the fortified city of Nineveh which by its name symbolizes a city where the people of traditions dwell. To such people we need to be like Jonah go to them and prophesize for there is hope for them when they repent and turn back. The city of Jericho which means 'moon' symbolized people who give the representatives of God more importance than God Himself. In short they are human worshippers.

High towers like the tower of Babylon has less to do with tall structures. It was not the height of the structure which disturbed God but the high thinking of the people who made the structure.

Today the Lord is telling us time of prophesies is at hand. This are not good prophesises but prophesies where the Lord where the Lord will punish all those who live in various fortified cities and those who build high towers.

A time when anger will bloom; people will be angry against each other, people angry against the system and with themselves, a time when troubles and distress will gloom over people's lives. A time when instead of moving ahead people will be moving backwards. This will be a time when depression, sadness and hopelessness will hover over people's minds.

People who want to avoid these things from happening to them, they need to get out of these fortified cities and high towers and dwell in the Kingdom of Heaven.

[ Prayer Starter ]
Lord, we pray for all those dwelling in various fortified cities and have built high towers; especially for your people. That their heart change, they repent and turn to You. May they understand there is nowhere and no one to go to other than You. You alone exist and there is no god or no one who can help other than You. Lord, like in the times on trouble You showed extra mercies and spoke directly to many among the people; speak Lord to the hearts and minds of the people and renew them...

This prayer we make in Jesus' Name, Amen.

Matthew 11:21-24
21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! [furnace of smoke - people who pretend to do God's work] woe unto thee, Bethsaida! [house of fish – people who knowing God still live in sin] for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
23 And thou, Capernaum [ village of comfort - people who come to God for luxury and earthly pleasure], which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom [burning - people of lust], it would have remained until this day.
24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
