Dig drenches in the dried valley and be filled

2 Kings 3:16 - And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.

If one reads 2 Kings 3:14-24 one will see God asked the Israelites to make drenches in the dried valley and miraculously the drenches get filled with water. This water was to quench the thirst of the Israelites, of their cattle and the other animals with them. But one thing the Israelites did not dream of was that the same water would also play an important role in their victory over the Moabites. For when the Moabites saw the water from far it looked like blood and this caused them to walk into a trap in which they were defeated.

We read one of the greatest enemies of the Israelites were the Moabites. The Israelites struggled with them over years and years of battle. Here their obedience to God bore fruit and victory over something they did not dream of.

In today's message the Lord is again telling us to dig drenches in our valleys, so that He can fill them with water. You may ask what valley and what water?

When we read Isaiah 40:4 the valleys symbolizes our lack in our spiritual life (knowledge) and mountains as the puffed up or the extra we think we know. The Lord says He will lift the valleys and level down the mountains so that we come to one understanding.

In today's message the Lord is talking to those dwelling n valleys, those who are lacking or thirsting for knowledge of the Kingdom of God. God is telling them to dig drenches that means meditate on the little they have, to go deeper into the little they know and soon the Lord will fill them with great streams of understanding (water). Jesus called this water as living water, which symbolizes Heavenly understanding which gives life. The understanding of this world does not satisfy any person, it brings them back to where they started. Even though the understanding of the Kingdom of God makes a person humble to understand how much more they need to know, yet it does not take the person back but lifts the person as they grow in understanding.

Another thing the Lord is telling us, this understanding which He is going to bless us with will not only quench our thirst and the thirst of the Believers with us but will also help us relate to those around us and the situations around us. It will also help us get victory over those areas in our lives which we have been battling since a long time and found them impossible to overcome.

Let us be obedient to the Lord and like the Israelites who must have thought it foolish to dig in a barren land, yet did it out of obedience to the Lord, let us too meditate on the little we know even though we may think what is the use of meditating on what we already know. Surely the Lord as promised with fill the drenches we dig with understanding that will not only quench us but also protect and give us victory over or problem areas.

[ Prayer Starter ]
Lord, there are many time we glance through scriptures thinking we know them and what more is to understand in them. But as instructed today by You if we dig into them You will surely reveal great understand that will change our lives and the lives of those with us. It will also help us overcome the areas in our lives wherein we have been struggling since long. Lord, we pray that we learn to meditate on the little things of thy Kingdom and thirst for more of You so that we be filled more and more of You...

This prayer we make in Jesus' Name, Amen.

14 And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.
15 But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.
16 And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.
17 For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.
18 And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.
19 And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.
20 And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
21 And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.
22 And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:
23 And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.
24 And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.
