It's the Lord's battle

Remember the words I spoke to you: "No servant is greater than his master." If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed My teaching, they will obey yours also.- John 15:20

This verse makes me think of a later verse where Jesus speaks as well. On the road to Damascus, Jesus asks Paul why he is persecuting Him. What do these two verses have in common? They both show Jesus letting everyone know that to do something to one of His children is to do it to Him.

This should cause all of us to pause and think. Whatever the world does to the children of God, they are doing to Christ. Whatever God's children do to one another, they are doing to the Lord Jesus Christ. This should make us think very seriously before we say something hurtful or do something mean-spirited to a believer in Christ.

To do something to me is of little consequence. I am not that important and I don't have the authority in most instances to make sure you pay for what you do to me. But to do something to Lord Jesus, the God of all, is something totally different. We should fear doing something to Christ. We should try our best not to do anything to offend the one that has made us and is our Lord.

This also helps us to understand something as Christians. When the world treats us badly, it is not so much a personal thing as it is a way to get at Christ. This is why Satan does so much to hinder and hurt the church. He is trying to hurt God. He can't touch God personally, so he tries to hurt God by hurting His children. The same is true of the world.

The world and the powers of the world can do very little if anything to personally hurt God. He is beyond their reach and He is greater than anyone or anything that might challenge Him. But He loves His children, those who are His through the blood of Christ. So the powers that be feel that they can hurt God by hurting His children.

This should help us to understand that the battle is not ours it is the Lord's. He is the one that will fight Satan and the world powers. We don't have to get out a gun and shoot someone in the name of God. God is very capable of taking care of Himself thank you very much. When the world persecutes us they are persecuting God and God will take care of it. We must trust Him.

The Word of God was given free to us, therefore we should also share it freely with others.
